The most common formulation of glyphosate SL is 480g/L glyphosate isopropylamine salt SL, which contains about 30.5% glyphosate acid or 41% glyphosate isopropylamine salt. The most popular color of this formulation is red.

480g/L glyphosate SL uses polyethoxylated tallowamine (POEA) as surfactant. Its additive amount is relatively large, so its weed control effect is good. It will take effect about 3 days after application, and the grass will die about 7 days later. However, this type of adjuvant has some adverse effects on aquatic organisms, and its environmental compatibility is poor. More and more countries have gradually begun to restrict or even prohibit the use of glyphosate agricultural chemical preparations containing the surfactant POEA.

Therefore, from the perspective of green development, it is particularly important to find efficient alternative additives. As glyphosate is an internal absorption and conduction herbicide, it has high requirements on spreading, wetting and penetration of liquid medicine. Generally, there is no precipitation within 4-10 hours after spraying in agricultural applications to avoid washing of glyphosate SL, otherwise, it needs to be re-sprayed. This problem leads to poor application effect of glyphosate in tropical areas such as southeast Asia,South America and other places. In recent years, although the common organosilicon adjuvant has been gradually promoted, it is difficult to add in the formulation because of its easy hydrolysis, especially the high requirements for the pH range of the application system.

In view of the above problems, our team has developed a non-ionic/zwitterionic compound adjuvant, which avoids the use of POEA ether, and not only improves the stability of the preparation, but also reduces the dynamic surface tension of the glyphosate SL, reduces the contact angle on the plant leaf surface, and at the same time improves the retention, spread and absorption of the glyphosate SL, thus improving the rain erosion resistance of the preparation. Under the same effect, the application amount can be reduced by nearly 30%, and the precipitation interval after application can be shortened by 90%, which improves the convenience of application. This type of adjuvant has also can been used in other herbicides such as Glufosinate-ammonium.

This highly cost-effective adjuvant developed by us has excellent wetting and permeability. When the addition amount is not less than 15%, its surface tension is below 30Nm/m,its use cost is far lower than that of POEA additives.
